Pixxel, an Indian space technology startup, announced on Monday that it has raised $100 million in a Series C fundraising round led by British space technology venture firm Seraphim (SSIT.L) and Singapore state investor Temasek. This is the largest funding round for a space technology company in India.

The latest round of fundraising for Google-backed Pixxel comprised new investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment in addition to current backers Radical Ventures and growX Ventures, bringing the total to $195 million, according to the business.

One of the Indian space startups that arose when the government allowed private companies to enter the market is Pixxel.

Pixxel was founded by Awais Ahmed and started using hyperspectral satellites that could provide information about the Earth’s surface that was not possible with traditional images.

Since then, it has broadened its focus to include satellite systems for both commercial and sovereign space missions, Aurora, and its Earth intelligence software. These together provide the foundation of Pixxel’s planetary infrastructure vision, which connects sensors, software, and space systems to assist institutions, businesses, and governments in converting Earth observation into useful intelligence, according to the company’s statement.

With the additional funding, Pixxel will be able to use its Honeybee satellite constellation and high-resolution optical imaging satellites to increase its sensing capabilities and further develop Aurora, a platform that integrates these information into insights that can be used to make decisions.
